Q – What is the significance of the small time number proceeded by the + sign in the large box?
answer: The small time with either (+ or -) indicates the amount of time over/under what it would take you if there were no traffic traveling at 55 mph for the route. Basically this gives you a reference point to quickly see in time how much over/under the current travel time for the route is. The format is h:mm:ss.
Q – What are the names of streets under the large box have numbers next to them on the right and different colored dots on the left?
answer: The details table displays points along the route usually indicated by cross roads. The color dot indicates the color coding (congestion level/speed, see next question below) and the numbers to the right indicate the average speed at that specific cross road. The details data varies between routes because of the data that provided by the DOT. All details should have a color coded dot while only some have the MPH to the right. Personally I use this to see where the traffic slows down and helps me indicate where I should get on or off the given roadway and take site streets to help avoid the delays.
Q – What is color coding indicate?
answer: Color coding is used in two places, but indicates the same basic idea. The overall color that you see is a based on the entire route, while the small dots in the details are in reference to a specific point in the road.
There is a possibility of 5 colors:
- Green – No congestion – indicating that the travel times are less than 10% above normal which indicate an average speed that is above or equal to 50 mph.
- Yellow – Light congestion – indicating that the travel times are between 10-30% above free flow time which indicates the average speed is between 40-49 mph.
- Orange – Medium congestion – indicating that the travel times are between 31-60% above free flow time which indicates the average speed is between 23-39 mph.
- Red – Heavy congestion – indicating that the travel times are more than 60% above free flow time which indicates the average speed is between 0-22 mph.
- Gray – congestion level is unknown or unable to be determined by the data available.
Q: How do I change the update frequency?
answer: If go to the settings app, there should be a table at the bottom thatlists settings for all the apps you have installed. Click on Traffic and chose your desired settings.
